Bath, NY – Arrival

I Have Arrived …

I left the Gettysburg, PA campground around 9:30, and without a single stop, arrived at my next campground in Bath, NY around 2:00 – not a bad day of driving.  Most of the morning was sunny and blue sky, followed by grey and raining most of the afternoon.  A light drizzle was present when I arrived, making the RV setup a mostly dry event.  I’m very thankful for that.  Nothing worse than tearing down or setting up in the pouring rain.

I’ve got a very nice site (#170) here at the campground.  Includes some mature trees on the site making for some very nice mid-day and early afternoon shade.  And, there is lots of room between RVs so I don’t feel like I’m on top of my neighbor.  That too is very welcome.  I think I’m gonna like it here for the next four weeks.

I have a dashcam (Thinkware F770) installed in my truck, which takes front and rear video as I drive.  My reasons for having it are many – one to provide real-time video evidence of any stupid driver tricks that impact my truck (e.g. an accident), to provide video protection of the truck while it is parked (timelapse and motion activated recording), and to use the video for other fun-type projects.  It is that latter reason that I share herein.  I had a rainy day today, so I decided to test my video editing skills.  I pulled a bunch of the recordings from the camera, and created a short “Bath NY Arrival” video.  It chronicles my arrival in Bath, pulling off the exit, pulling into the campground, getting to my site, then disconnecting the RV from the truck.  If you are interested, you can watch by clicking on the video below.  Appreciate any feedback (good or bad) on what you think.

Getting Settled …

I’ve been here a few days now, and am working on putting together a list of places to visit, and people to see.  There are a few places that I visited the last time I was here (Watkins Glen, Corning Museum of Glass, etc.) that I want to go see again.  There are also lots of places I missed last time that I intend to not miss again.  So, I’m putting together the bucket list of the local area.

As I’ve driven through town a bit in the last couple of days, I’m recognizing many things I had seen and been to on my prior trip.  One such place was this little information booth located in the center of town, run by the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club.  So, being a tourist, I stopped by and chatted with a very nice gentleman who provided me with brochures and references to lots of places to add to my must see list.

I’m also very pleased to report that I have also totally washed and waxed my truck.  Boy, did it need it!  Now it looks all nice and shiny and new.  The RV is next – hopefully during the week this week.  I’m very thankful that this campground has no restrictions on washing vehicles on the property.  But, to be respectful to the ‘weekenders’, I’m going to limit those activities to the middle of the week when things are not so crowded and to allow others to stay and enjoy themselves without me carrying on.  I’ll also be getting busy on those remaining projects that I had not finished back in Gettysburg.  Ah, the “To Do” list seems to never end.  But alas, I can do it at my pace and on my schedule.  Gotta love this retired life!

That’s about all I’ve got to report for now.  Till later, safe travels!

  1. I love the video and feels like I am right there with you. So glad that you are enjoying your retirement doing what you love. Can’t wait to see you when you get to Texas.

  2. Great video, Bruce! Loved all the details on setting up the RV. It’s so good to see you enjoying retirement (like me). Keep on posting!

    1. Rick – I’ll see what I can do about the visiting attraction videos. I do have a couple of video “toys” (a drone and a steady cam) that I’m looking forward to learning how to use and master. So I fully expect there to be more video production in my future.

And yes, th RV has automatic leveling, so no more driving over blocks or boards to raise one side to level. I now just push a button, and it magically does all the work. It’s a really nice feature!

  3. Excellent video. I’m so happy you are doing what you love. I can’t wait to retire. Keep the videos coming
